5 things Star Wars taught us that can stop your event going to the dark side

You might have organised a thousand events, but there’s nothing like a bit of intergalactic wisdom to make a good thing better. Follow our sage advice to avoid any cosmic disasters, and as always, may the force be with you.

  1. Choose the right helpers

Remember when Anakin started hanging out with Darth Sidious? That was never going to end well. Star Wars taught us the importance of having honest companions to keep you right, so seek out hard-working people (ahem) to help you put your event together.

  1. Embrace uniqueness

With everything from adorable Ewoks to quirky robots like C-3PO, the Star Wars universe is home to some pretty unusual characters. Take a tip from Chewie – you don’t have to look like everyone else to be loved. Do a bit of brainstorming and think of ways to make your event stand out; adding an original twist to a well-known theme will make the occasion memorable.

  1. Don’t overspend on the venue

Yoda spent ages living in a murky swamp, and was he bothered? No! We’re not suggesting that you hold your next open-mic night on Dagobah, but try not to get carried away and spend all of your budget on the venue alone.

  1. Use reputable sources of finance

We don’t care what he said, Jabba the Hutt was never approved by the Lending Standards Board. If you need to borrow capital for your event, make sure you have a good lender and a realistic repayment plan.

  1. Take your time

Has a Stormtrooper ever hit anything? Ever? Watching the Empire’s finest reminds us that it’s best not to rush when taking aim at your first event. Give yourself a few weeks to think through your options and get rid of niggling issues that’ll stop you hitting the mark.
