Interning at ticketscript: A reflection of Basma’s time with us

We were lucky enough to have the very talented Basma El Jamri intern with us for a 3 month period earlier in 2016. Let’s see what she had to say about her experience working in our London office.

How did you feel on your first day at ticketscript?

I remember sitting in the office the same way I look back at my first day of college: excited, anxious, but motivated. From where I come (Morrocco), not everyone gets the opportunity to intern in London at Europe’s leader in self-service ticketing. That’s actually what drew me to applying for this internship; the opportunity to shadow several divisions of the company and enhance my knowledge of the UK events industry.

From the very first day, everyone welcomed me as a new team member and genuinely expected me to make a contribution. I quickly made myself familiar with the database and dashboard, as well as the entrance management app developed by ticketscript. Since that day, I have had the chance to do meaningful work that I could call my own and felt that I was able to truly add value.


What was your day-to-day job as an intern at ticketscript?

Every morning, I had the opportunity to attend sales meeting with seniors and the country director to talk about possible strategies and potential clients to follow up. I have become significantly more efficient with my work, and the job felt more natural to me each and every day. I was involved in tasks related to sales, digital marketing, access control and lead sourcing generation. With the help of the sales team, I was put in charge of identifying and contacting potential event organisers regarding the self-ticketing software suitable for their needs. Moreover, I assisted on-site with the access control management of one of our big clients where I could make use of the ‘Flow’ app to scan the list of attendees from different gates of the site.


How would you describe the office atmosphere?

The work was only a small part of what made my experience really special. Everyone I met, from seniors to the Country Director himself, helped me grow, both as an intern and a person. They approached me about my ambitions, goals, and struggles frequently, not as they felt obliged, but because they truly cared. Their dedication to their jobs is something I will never forget. I felt that each day I was forming stronger bonds with my colleagues. They are some of the smartest and most amiable people I have ever met. It’s obvious that the bond  we had resulted in the quality of our work. The Friday gatherings offered the opportunity to get to know co-workers and managers on a social level while also establishing relationships with those in the company who I hadn’t previously met in person. On the other hand, we had meetings with employees from the other territories across Europe on a monthly basis, where we tackled all the new improvements and achievements related to the industry and ticketscript services. Regarding the office design, I fell in love with the graffiti art murals, as well as the inspiring and powerful wall blue words adorned that remind us of our goals. Indeed, all of these office wall decals were the perfect thing to help us block out distractions and focus on the tasks at hand.


Looking back, what would you say has been your favourite part of the internship?

Through training and the job experience, I found myself learning more about not only the firm and my group, but also the industry as a whole. The company’s flat environment was encouraging and reassuring – my colleagues/mentors have been absolutely involved from day one, sharing insights, providing explanations, giving advice, and always being willing to help with technical and functional matters. This has clearly enabled me to learn a lot more than expected.

Having contributed to Europe’s only trade show for the growing scare attractions, “ScareCon 2016”, I’ve had the enormous opportunity to meet, in person, event organisers, designers, along with fans of the scare attraction industry.  Senior Sales Manager Hannah and I held brief Q&A chats with each one of them about our ticketing solutions and discussed ways of improving their online sales and targeting more ticket buyers. Being part of this fair has been the highlight of my internship at ticketscript and has added value in all aspects of my experience.


What will you take away from your time working at ticketscript?

I am pleased to say that during my time there, I have definitely gained the necessary skills, knowledge and experience I need in order to continue along my journey. I had the chance to see how a growing business operates and to actively contribute to its mission. I really enjoyed working with the Sales & Marketing teams. My role was extremely empowering, from which I gained a lot of self-confidence. I was exposed from the outset as to what makes the company tick and the immense dedication and passion of all the staff to keep the company running smoothly. Everyone in the team is equally valued regardless of whether you are full-time staff or a short-term intern.

Being part of this adventure was very rewarding. Now, it is time for me to take a new path full of promises thanks to the team support.  The experience has helped solidify that I am now on the right path, and I am glad that my journey towards a new career has started with ticketscript.  At the start of my internship I had no clue about what to expect, but now only a few months later, I would definitely recommend it. I would like to thank everyone for being so welcoming, helpful and encouraging, and I wish you all the best for the future endeavours.
