While ticketing can be straightforward, the diverse nature of the events we work with means a significant degree of flexibility is required from our platform. We provide ticketing services to some real innovators, with high standards and specific plans for what they want to achieve. Nobody embodies this more than recently on board client London Chess Classic.
London Chess Classic 2014 takes place at Olympia Conference Centre, Kensington from 6-14 December. When they set out to find a ticketing partner for the whole project, LCC had certain criteria which had to be met in order to run the event as planned.
Complete online “box office”
The majority of our clients only need to sell one set of ticket types, typically to the audience. People who want to attend the event as a spectator can simply go to the website and purchase the relevant tickets. However, LCC are doing a little more…
As well as selling both 5-day passes and 1-day passes to adults, they are allowing free passes to be claimed by under-25s. To do this simultaneously, they required the flexibility of a solution like ours which allowed the multiple options offered via separate channels.
These separate shops channels are laid out clearly and elegantly in the box office section of the LCC site, making what could be a complicated purchase process smooth and frustration-free. Using some other ticketing solutions may have required a number of links to separate external pages – a far inferior user experience.
The creative use of ticketscript doesn’t stop there – LCC are particularly unusual as a ticketscript client in that they are actually using the platform for entrants who wish to compete for the cash-prizes on offer.
Having navigated to the correct page and tab within the box office, prospective players are asked to choose the event(s) they wish to enter and then the ticket type based on their FIDE (World Chess Federation) ratings.
Similarly to the spectators section, certain entrants are also eligible to register for free participation: players under 25, women and Grandmasters. This is done via separate channels but, again, all within the same brilliantly designed box office section of the LCC site.
Custom fields for additional data capture:
We’ve blogged about our custom fields functionality before, and how, why and when you might use it. LCC’s ticketshops are a great example of how this feature can be incorporated to into an event organisation process.
In the appropriate channels, players are required to enter credentials such as their chess club, their FIDE ID number, ECF membership level and other specific details required for their participation in the contest. LCC are even using it as a means to enable certain players to request byes. All this happens neatly within the ticketshop frame, as part of the purchase process.
